Horny Goat Weed Extract - The ancient and Traditional Chinese Medicine herb for increased sexual desires, curing erectile dysfunction, and more

Horny Goat Weed Extract

Epimedium, which is also known as Horny Goat Weed, is an erectile aid and cure used in ancient and Traditional Chinese Medicine (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.). Horny goat weed is a herb, which was historically found in China and other Asian countries. In the Chinese language, the herb is named as “yin yang huo” (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.). Horny goat weed is commonly famous for mental and physical fatigue, joint pain, liver disease, high blood pressure, Chronic Leucopenia, and osteoarthritis (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.). It is also used for bone loss after menopause, memory loss, and back pains (Horny Goat Weed, 2017). Specifically, it is advised for arousing the intensity of sexual desires, curing erectile dysfunction and involuntary ejaculations among elder males (Horny Goat Weed, 2017). However, its benefits are not limited to the sexual area alone.

Horny goat weed is believed to contain chemicals, which augment the blood flow and improve thereby sexual functionality. A research study article published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine explored the effects of Horny goat weed on rats and found out that pure extraction of horny goat weed when given to rats improved their erectile function significantly (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.). Another research study claimed that icariin is efficient in inhibiting human PDE5, which is a substance that blocks erections in the male sexual organ. Apart from that, it contains a hormone similar to the female sexual hormone estrogen called phytoestrogens, which reduce the bone loss in post-menopausal women (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.).

Generally, it is sold over the counter as a tablet, tea, powder, or capsule. Besides, it is sold to customers in extract potencies, which also includes percentages of epimediosides and icariin (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.). Twenty percent icariin can work better than the regular powder extracted from the original herb. The active agent it contains is icariin, which is extracted from Epimedium plant that is believed to contain men with erectile dysfunction specifically (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.). That is why the botanical name for horny goat weed is Epimedium. However, it has other famous names, such as barrenwort, randy beef grass, brain tonic of the immortals, yin yang huo and rowdy lamb herb (Horny Goat Weed, (n.d.). The plant Epimedium is native to countries like Korea, Japan, and China. These days, however, it is grown as an ornamental plant in many countries of the world, including the United States of America.
