Alpha Lipoic Acid - helps cells stay strong and healthy
Alpha-lipoic acid, shortly pronounced as ALA, is a naturally occurring compound that's made in the human body. It is of prominent importance in health maintenance. It assists several vital body functions at the cellular level, such as the production of energy. If one is healthy, the body produces the necessary quantity of Alpha Lipoic acid spontaneously. However, it is claimed that Alpha Lipoic acid has beneficial effects when used as a supplement for treating the adverse effects of diabetes and HIV (Axe, 2017). ALA works as an antioxidant, besides, and protect body cells against damage.
ALA is present in foods, such as organ meats like liver and heart, yeast, broccoli, spinach, and potatoes. However, in the case of body sickness, ALA from food does not produce a noticeable increase in the level of free ALA in the body. ALA may aid in reducing the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy -- nerve damage that is caused by diabetes (Axe, 2017). Apart from that, ALA has been used for providing relief from pain, tingling, burning, and numbing produced by diabetic neuropathy. Alpha Lipoic acid also helps in restoring the levels of essential vitamins in the body, such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E, along with aiding the body in digesting and consume carbohydrate molecules while transforming them into usable energy (Alpha Lipoic Acid, 2017).
